Here’s where to find all the cool horticulture displays in New West

Be sure to snap a few photos before the summer is over

Do you know where this is?

After we spoke to Dan Jokic at New West parks operations about the inspiration for their extremely creative floral displays, we wanted to get a sense of where else in the city we could find the talented team’s work. We’ve compiled a list of stops for you to check out, and maybe even score a selfie or two!

Queensborough Community Centre

A superstar of a display outside the Queensborough Community Centre

This is a great spot with a couple of cute options, including starlights that light up when it’s dark enough. It’s also not too far from the community garden and Ryall Park (it has a water park!) so you can take a moment to enjoy the worker bees in the garden, and then cool off with some shade (or a spray of water!).

Glenbrook Ravine

This turtle display is a nod to the turtles living in the area pond

Home to those tenacious turtles, the park pays homage to them with a cute succulent turtle display near the Jamieson Court entrance. You’ll also find a couple of chairs and a table covered in succulents—very tea party à la Alice in Wonderland. Please don’t sit on the flowers!

Century House

The peacock feature can be found outside Century House

The gardens at Century House are currently home to a majestic peacock. The feathers are down, not up, so you’ll have to look carefully to spot the beautiful bird.

Waterfront Esplanade

In between horticultural hot spots, be sure to take a moment to admire the hanging baskets. This year the Esplanade is home to some interesting little caves!

Queen’s Park Rose Garden

Queen’s Park is considered the city’s flagship park, and is the most manicured. Jokic says there is a bit of a theme to the garden. “If you look closely, you may notice a bit of a theme with peace signs and sunflowers. We received several requests from residents to do something to acknowledge current world events,” he says.

Another cool feature throughout the rose garden is the selfie mirrors. If you position your phone or camera just right, you should be able to see most of your face framed by succulent squares.
