What The Anchor's paid membership will look like
As of Tuesday, April 3, some of our work will appear behind a paywall. What you need to know
Hi everyone,
With the recent launch of our paid membership plan (a massive thank you to those who have signed up so far!) we wanted to let all readers know what the newsletter and some of our content will look like as of Tuesday, April 3, 2023.
If you’re already a paid member, you’ll have 100% access to everything, and your newsletter experience will not be changing—in fact, it’ll get better.
Members only access:
For the Tuesday morning newsletter:
The where to eat and drink section;
The local deals and specials section;
The things to do section
For the Thursday morning newsletter:
The New West events section
Insider members will also receive a Saturday round-up newsletter, directly to their inboxes. This will include our main stories from the week, as well as events tailored to the next few days, in case you’d like to plan ahead.
As I shared on March 1, we began gating some of our hard news coverage to our subscribers only. This meant anyone who was a subscriber to The Anchor would be able to access our hard news and/or on-the-ground local coverage: one example includes our pretty popular city council round-ups.
If you’d like to review that previous update, you can do so by clicking here.
In that same update, I also outlined that we are working towards building a sustainable publication model that puts our subscribers and supporters first. With New West Anchor heading into its first year this May, we’re ready to take the next step in finding the balance between providing local coverage, while fairly compensating the members of our team who work behind the scenes on the tech, social media, and copy editing to help me put together newsletters.
I understand that not everyone will be able to afford a membership—and that’s OK. Subscribing and sharing us with your friends and family is immensely appreciated, too. We are looking at whether we’ll be able to add other levels of paid subscriptions in the weeks to come.
However, in some of our reader surveys, many people responded to say they wanted to see things like more local coverage and more reporters.
I want to cover as many stories as I can. Believe me: I strongly feel New West deserve so, so much more coverage because this city of 85,000 is growing. Our stories are the fabric of our city, and even after living here for almost six years, I’m still learning so much. I’m sure you are, too.
Currently, I’m the only person writing on a regular basis for The Anchor, and I’d love to change that. Your endorsement with a premium membership gives us a fair shot at more coverage, and more local news.
Thank you so much for supporting local journalism.
