⚓ A history of New West newspapers

Plus, add some New West joy 'en Espanol' to your feed!

Hey there, New West.

Many moons ago I made one of my first paycheques delivering newspapers for the Burnaby Now. I thought it was so cool to get paid to play a small role in sharing something I enjoyed reading with others as I walked up and down the streets of North Burnaby every few weeks, placing rolled up papers and flyers on the doorsteps of homes.

Today, the era of the physical newspaper seems to be coming to an end, not only for Burnaby and The Now, but for the Tri-City News, and for the New West Record: last week The Record posted an article announcing the end of paper deliveries as it moves to a digital-only format.

We at The Anchor are sending our thoughts to those at the New West Record and the other publications impacted. Local, on-the-ground reporting is so needed in our cities. Pick up a copy if you can today—I know I will—it’s The Record’s final physical edition. You’ll still also be able to follow them on their website, and like us, they have a newsletter you can sign up for.
