Food fight. A Langley woman says she recently spent $150 to make one meal for her family of five. She broke down her bill as a recent report found Canadian grocers will be making more than $6B this year—up 8% from last year. (CityNews Vancouver)

Food fears. ReFeed Farm—a social enterprise in Langley that grows food for local food banks—is set to go under, according to its owner. (CBC Vancouver)

Pet problems. Pet owners in BC are apparently struggling to hold on to their furry friends, according to the Paws for Hope Foundation. (CTV Vancouver)

🍴 Where to eat and drink (for the holidays)

The Tannenbaum. The Tannenbaum is offering a Christmas eve special: for $31 you can have a turkey dinner with all the fixings. Learn more about how to book your table through their Instagram page. 

Steel & Oak. This made-in-New West brewery is throwing a New Year’s Eve bash—and you’re invited. The event starts at 8pm and includes some drinks along with a three-course menu by Tultepec. Tickets can be purchased online, and they’re $75 each.

The Sapperton District Tap House. They’ll also be celebrating New Year’s Eve with food, fun, and live music. Make sure you get your tickets ahead of time—they’re offering an early bird discount that’s good until Christmas day. 

🗓️ Things to do

Shine Bright shop nights. This is the last week of this evening event. Make sure to visit participating Downtown New West retailers—many of whom will be extending their hours to help you find those perfect last-minute gifts!

Winter Discovery Days. It’s fun for the whole family at the Fraser River Discovery Centre. This edition of Discovery Days is on from this Thursday until Jan. 7—don’t miss out.

Light up the Night family skate. For less than $4, hit the ice at Moody Park Arena on Saturday, Dec. 23. The event starts at 6:30pm. Rentals are also available for a fee.
