Hello Anchor friends!

It is hard to ignore the hot weather—all you have to do is step outside during the day to feel like you’re walking into an oven. My husband and I have personally been sitting in front of our fan every single day. I also have a tiny bear—or is it a cat?—hand fan I make use of when I have to work in our office, which is the warmest spot in our apartment.

Today I’ve got a piece for you that looks at the potential impacts of the heat and the current (not very good) wildfire season on New West. Be sure to keep scrolling so you can give it a read. 👇🏼

Supporting local businesses matters

Did you know that moving just a portion of purchases to local businesses has a big impact on the local economy's bottom line?

Purchasing goods from locally-based suppliers creates nearly twice as much benefit to the local economy as buying from multinational chains. It's true that not every purchase you might need can be made in New Westminster but thinking local first has big impact and is one easy step you can take to support local businesses and keep our economy strong and growing.

A New Westie’s Jeopardy! journey

Do you know the answer to this question? 👆🏼 Jeopardy on YouTube.

Just in case it’s still on your to-watch list, we won’t tell you how New Westie Chelsea Watt fared on Tuesday night’s episode of Jeopardy!, but if you want a cut-to-the-chase recap of what she was up against in Final Jeopardy!, there is a clip available to watch. A note that it does include the outcome of the game—you have been warned!

Watt, who works for BC Hydro, spent years hoping to get on the show. Her wish recently came true, and she flew to California a while ago to compete.

“I am so deeply overwhelmed by all the support and reaction to my appearance on Jeopardy…Thank you all for your kind words and support and everyone who cheered me on,” Watt said in a Tweet Tuesday evening.
