Plus: How homesteading changed one woman's life

TOGETHER WITH

Happy Tuesday, New West.

A quick reminder that you won’t see a newsletter this Thursday, Saturday (if you’re an Insider member), and next Tuesday as I take my first-ever publication break. Yes, it’s going to be weird not getting up at 4:30am every day. Yes, I am excited. No, I’m not going anywhere. So—hope to see you around the city!

If you’ve valued the work we’ve done here at the Anchor, I’d love if you became an Insider member – right now for 40% off the normal cost of a membership. That means each newsletter you get costs just $0.38 – and I can tell you it takes a lot more than that to produce!

If we can get 50 new members before next Thursday, it’ll help ensure we can end the summer strong.

– Ria

LOCAL NEWS

Fewer than 200 New Westies have taken advantage of rebate, air conditioners

BC Hydro tells New West Anchor in a statement that as of last week, only 88 people have reached out for the $50 air conditioner rebate, while 86 applications have been received for the low-cost offer.

There is still time to sign up for a rebate or a low-cost air conditioner. For the rebate:

  • Purchase an eligible air conditioner in-store from a participating retailer from June 2 to July 28 and save instantly. The discount is taken off the after-tax purchase price at checkout. Participating retailers include Costco, Best Buy, and the Home Depot.

  • Post-purchase rebates: you can purchase an eligible air conditioner from any retailer online or in-store from June 2 to July 28, then apply for a rebate online at bchydro.com from June 12 to Sept. 26.

Instructions are available online for the low-income offer.
