The City of New Westminster has shared in a report to council that the final total to be paid out three years after the Pier Park Fire will be $30M—though $10M of that has already been paid, and there are still some costs to account for.

Dreams of a community kitchen

Executive director of the Massey Theatre Society, Jessica Schneider, holds a cheque from the Rotary Club. Supplied.

The Massey Theatre Society is a step closer to seeing its community kitchen become a reality after a hefty $10,000 donation from The Rotary Club of New Westminster.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support this fantastic initiative,” Rotary’s co-president Gabor Gasztonyi noted in a release provided to The Anchor, adding he’d like to see other community groups try to match or surpass their donation so that the kitchen can become a reality sooner.

Once established, the kitchen would be used to feed artists, activate community programs, service fundraisers, meetings, cultural celebrations, awards ceremonies, as well as performances and arts programs.

Even with this donation, the group still needs another $30,000. If you’d like to help, you’re invited to learn more through the not-for-profit’s website.
