New West Police are trying to track down a driver who struck an 84-year-old man on Monday. The pedestrian is believed to have been hit near 6th Ave. and 8th St., sometime between 7:45 and 8pm. The man suffered serious injuries.

“We urge motorists who were driving near the intersection before or after the time of the hit and run to check their dashcam footage for similar-looking vehicles,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver stated in a release. “Your surveillance or dash camera may have captured something. Please check.” Sgt. Leaver is also asking the driver to do the right thing and turn themselves in.

📣 Neighbourhood bulletin

🚧 Road closure. This closure goes to Dec. 4 along 6th Ave., from 14th to 18th Streets. It’s to be able to complete sewer separation and water main construction.

🏢 For lease. There is some space up for grabs at təməsew̓txʷ. If you’d like to learn more, the city is asking you to visit their Your Active New West page.

🎸 Elvis and the Rise of Rock & Roll. This is happening Nov. 2 at the Eighth & Eight Creative Spaces. Film scholar Michael Van Den Bos will be on hand to guide you through an exploration of Elvis Presley.

🔨 SkyTrain work. For those Downtown: TransLink will be replacing 2,700 rail pads on the New West side of the sky bridge, so be prepared for some evening noise. The work should wrap up in December.

Sentenced. After a young person came forward to police to share that they were a victim of sex offences, someone has been sentenced. Investigators in New West were made aware of the incidents in 2020. Names are not being shared due to a publication ban.

Reversal. Port Coquitlam is walking back its decision to not green light a child care space, with Mayor Brad West—who was not present at the original meeting—using his power to garner a reconsideration. (CBC Vancouver)
