Discovery Playtime Preschool
Preschoolers develop physical, motor, and social skills in this play-based program. Featuring fully qualified preschool instructors and specially equipped rooms with scaled-down furniture, toys, and play areas, Discovery Playtime has been a staple in the community for many years.
There is still room in the morning programs, 9:15 - 11:15 am, at Centennial Community Centre, Century House, and Queensborough Community Centre. Choose from Monday-Wednesday-Friday, or Tuesday-Thursday sets, or sign up for every day!

🚲 Did you hear? There are now eBikes in the city. Learn more about the provider, and how they ended up in New West.
🌊 Q to Q. The ferry’s summer hours will end on Sept. 4, with fall/winter hours in effect as of Sept. 5.
🥍 Bellies tickets. These went on sale as of Thursday—make sure to get yours before they disappear. The Bellies are taking on Six Nations for the Mann Cup.
🚂 In case you missed it. The City of New West recently released a report regarding feedback it has received this year regarding train whistle cessation.
💍Donations. New to You is looking for donations of jewelery. Check out their online post to see what exactly they’re looking for.

Current flood risk. Council took a look at a report from staff on this topic last week.
An offer of help. Honour House recently offered its two spaces—a ranch and the home it runs in New West—to first responders impacted by the recent run of wildfires in the province.
Life after Jeopardy! Chelsea Watt, who appeared on the game show earlier this year, was recruited by CBC’s Justin McElroy to play pub trivia with two former contestants. McElroy recently wrote about how their team lost.
Be dirty. On social media, ICBC is asking folks to keep their cars dirty for a potential prize. The move is being done in the name of water conservation.

There’s always an opportunity to learn how to help others—and potentially save a life in the process.
On Thursday—which was also International Overdose Awareness Day—Purpose Society held a naloxone training session at Moody Park. The event also served as an effort to set a world record.

🍴 Where to eat and drink
Kozak Ukranian Bakery. The New West bakery is making the rounds on social media right now for this massive cube croissant. It comes in two flavours: raspberry and cream cheese, and lemon blueberry.
Great Wall Tea Co. While you can buy all kinds of tea to take home and steep, it’s certainly worth giving their iced options a try. We recommend the blackcurrant with agave—definitely iced.
Mukasi Coffee. Tucked away along Front St., this coffee shop is a quaint spot to sit down and have a cup’o Joe solo or with friends. They also roast their own beans and have all sorts of baked goods for you to try.

Movie by the river. Check out The Super Mario Bros. Movie this Friday at Pier Park. This free event begins at 6pm.
Summer reading wrap-up party. Taking place this Saturday at Queen’s Park, this event celebrates all the awesome reading local kids have been doing through the New West Public Library.
Expressive art therapy. This event allows us to explore and express grief through art. It’s happening on Sunday at Arrieta Art Studio, in collaboration with New West Hospice.
