Try these brilliant brunch spots in New Westminster

Don't be afraid to hit snooze with these four suggestions

It’s always wonderful when someone else does the cooking for you, especially in the morning—on a weekend, perhaps, when you’ve decided to catch a bit more shut eye.

I 100% believe New Westminster is underrated as a foodie paradise, and that our brunch scene surpasses many of the offerings in surrounding municipalities.

These four spots are a great place to start if you’re looking for a great brunch experience in New West. Got one you’d like to share with us? Send it to [email protected].

It’s always neat when you catch a group of lawyers walking across the street to grab food here. That was my first encounter with The Hide Out Cafe, which arguably has served well as a ‘hide out’ for the folks who work across the street at the New West Law Courts.

While seating is limited, if you’re able to stick around and enjoy the big breakfast, you won’t regret it. The wraps are also delicious—the mango chicken is a must-try.

This spot first opened along Columbia Street, but has since moved to the Sapperton area—and with the move came an increase in seating space, which is great! (The space on Columbia is now home to Donuteria, a joint venture between Bruncheria and Royal City Donuts.) The Sapperton location is also licensed, so: hello breakfast mimosa!

Since I’m often terrible at committing to brunch food choices, I like to get the brunch bowl, which has a little bit of everything, though I know the assortment of eggs Benny has been popular.

When Wild Rice first closed its doors, I wasn’t sure how to feel. While I miss their spicy chicken kung po, watching Angelina’s move into the space has also made my tummy happy.

I once brought my in-laws and one of my best friends here for brunch, and between the food and riverside views, everyone enjoyed themselves. I made the mistake of having a light bite to eat beforehand, so when they set my bananas, cinnamon, and whipped cream French toast in front of me, my eyes practically popped out of my head.

Don’t worry: if you don’t have a sweet tooth like I do during breakfast, there are also options for savoury French toast, along with pannekoeken (Dutch pancake), breakfast bowls, omelettes, and scrambles.

We love the homely, welcoming atmosphere at Coming Home Cafe; we actually featured them in another piece we put together about coffee shops in the city.

Grandma’s always got something on the go at Coming Home, but the Kick Ass Benny and the mac and cheese are among my favourites.
