“Community is the first word that comes to mind when I think about working in the forest industry in Canada. I can’t wait to share a glimpse of my experiences through the Green Dream Internship Program.”

That’s what Olivia Becher had to say about earning one of 13 forestry-related summer internships through the Forest Products Association of Canada’s (FPAC) 2023 Green Dream Internship Program.

Becher, who is from New West, is in her fourth year of studies at UBC, working on her combined major in Business and Computer Science. She’s also been spotted volunteering at New West’s Don’t Go Hungry program.

Her win with FPAC included a $1,000 prize.

“Committed to enhancing her skill set outside of the classroom, she actively participates in case competitions and hackathons, attends business and technology conferences, and pursues co-op work experience,” explains a release from FPAC.

Becher has been a co-op student with Canfor since May of last year. She’ll continue to work with them over the summer, working on social media blogs, vlogs, TikTok and Instagram content for them.

Aside from volunteering, Becher likes to play soccer and hike—particularly Panorama Ridge. She also enjoys baking low-cholesterol desserts and has an Instagram account where she keeps track of her recipies.

FPAC’s Green Dream initiative was first launched in 2013, with a goal of combining forestry work and storytelling in BC.
