It’s the end of a 37-year run for the Paddlewheeler Pub, an anchor business and tenant at the River Market.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the waterfront spot points to rising inflation and government taxation as the reason for shuttering.

On Tuesday afternoon—at around 2pm—The Anchor attempted to visit the business after it received a number of messages from readers expressing concerns regarding a potential permanent closure.

Upon visiting, The Anchor noticed that a couple of the televisions were still on, but the lights were out and there was no one inside.

The Paddlewheeler’s hours of operation were recently posted on Google as opening at either 11am or noon. The Anchor has reached out to the business through the information on its contact page—which is still up as of deadline—as well as to the phone number on the Google results page to request further comment.

A few hours after The Anchor requested comment via email, a post went up on Facebook confirming the news.

“Your unwavering support has been the cornerstone of our success, and we couldn’t have embarked on this incredible journey without each and every one of you,” the social media posts opens, going on to thank suppliers, customers, and staff.

The pub has not shared any plans for its future, including whether it will reopen at a new location.
