⚓ The New West 'house' that almost wasn't

And Jeopardy! gets the New West treatment

TOGETHER WITH

Happy Tuesday, New West.

For those who aren’t in the know, we have a Threads account, and we hope you’ll give us a follow. I’ve seen over the weeks that a number of members of the New West community have made their way over there—and we’re no exception! Threads is quite experimental though, so we’re still maintaining our accounts on Instagram and Twitter.

But given what’s happening with big tech companies and Ottawa’s Bill C-18, if you support our work and want to make sure you don’t miss out on anything happening in New West, become an Anchor Insider member and make sure community news is here to stay.

P.S. We’re giving our newsletter a new look. Let us know what you think of it in the poll at the bottom.

CONGRATULATIONS, CENTURY HOUSE!

Left to right: Duncan “Dunc” Russell, recreation commission chair; his wife Frances; then-lieutenant-governor Frank Ross; and Princess Margaret at the ribbon cutting of Century House in 1958. Century House by Jack David Scott, p. 2.

With Century House marking the big 6-5 this Sunday—then celebrating on Monday—we’re looking at how the much-loved community space almost didn’t happen. Learn more about what the centre entails today, and how it’s bridging gaps figuratively—and literally—among a host of generations.

Ultra-wealthy investors fall in love with this app (here’s why)

While financial markets tanked in 2022, one market saw its best performance in 277 years. The blue-chip art market – hauling in nearly $18 billion. Millionaires and billionaires love this market, but now you don’t need to be one to get access.

Masterworks is the fintech platform that lets you diversify your portfolio in this currently booming market. Their last three sales in 2022 handed investors 10.4%, 35.0%, and 13.9% net returns respectively.

After all, contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 131% from 1995-2021 with a near 0 correlation to stocks according to Citi. Thanks to Masterworks, investing in art by Banksy, Picasso, and Basquiat is easier than using ChatGPT to automate your emails.

“Net Return" refers to the annualized internal rate of return net of all fees and costs, calculated from the offering closing date to the date the sale is consummated. IRR may not be indicative of Masterworks paintings not yet sold and past performance is not indicative of future results. See important Regulation A disclosures at masterworks.com/cd
